SDS translation

Selling in another EU country? We translate your safety data sheet into the official language of that country and check the parts that change from one country to another.

Price on request, based on the number of products and languages.

Why the language matters

An SDS or a label that the user in the destination country cannot read does not meet the legal requirements, even if its content is correct.

REACH Art. 31(5)

Safety data sheet

The SDS must be supplied in an official language of the Member State where the substance or mixture is placed on the market, unless that Member State provides otherwise.
CLP Art. 17(2)

Label

The label must be written in the official language or languages of the Member State where the product is placed on the market, unless that Member State provides otherwise.

What the translation covers

Not just a translated text: the parts that depend on the country are checked as well.

  • All 16 sections, with headings in the official wording of Annex II in the target language
  • H and P statements in the exact wording of Annexes III and IV to CLP for that language
  • Emergency telephone number in subsection 1.4, including the official advisory body of the country where one exists
  • National occupational exposure limits in section 8
  • National legislation in section 15
  • A check that the source SDS follows the current Annex II format – if not, we tell you before translating

Which language do I need?

The rule is the official language of the country where the product is sold. Examples for neighbouring markets:

Slovakia Slovak
Czechia Czech
Hungary Hungarian
Poland Polish
Austria German
Germany German
Countries with more than one official language, such as Belgium or Luxembourg, may set their own rules. Check with the national REACH and CLP helpdesk of that country.

Questions before ordering

Can you translate an SDS we did not write?

Yes. We translate SDSs from manufacturers and other suppliers. If the source has errors or uses an outdated format, we point them out first.

Is a translation enough if our SDS is outdated?

No. A translation copies the content of the source. If the source does not meet the current requirements, it needs a revision first.

Which source languages do you work with?

Send us the SDS in the language you have. The available language combinations are confirmed in the quote.

How much does a translation cost?

The price depends on the length of the SDS and the number of target languages. You get a fixed quote before any work starts.
