Chloramine T

tosylchloramide sodium

What a safety data sheet for chloramine T and mixtures containing it has to cover – harmonised classification, workplace limits and transport, taken from official sources.

Sources last checked: 14 October 2026 · CLP consolidated version of 1 July 2026 Author: Maximilián Pálffy, chemical engineer This page is not a safety data sheet. We do not publish SDSs of specific products – the figures come from official sources and the binding text is always the legislation itself.

Harmonised classification

Entry in CLP Annex VI, Table 3: tosylchloramide sodium.

Annex VI, Table 3

Classification

  • Acute Tox. 4 – acute toxicity, category 4 (H302)
  • Skin Corr. 1B – skin corrosion, category 1B (H314)
  • Resp. Sens. 1 – respiratory sensitisation, category 1 (H334)
Label elements

Labelling

GHS08 pictogram – health hazard GHS05 pictogram – corrosion GHS07 pictogram – exclamation mark
Signal word: Danger · GHS08, GHS05, GHS07
  • H302 Harmful if swallowed.
  • H314 Causes severe skin burns and eye damage.
  • H334 May cause allergy or asthma symptoms or breathing difficulties if inhaled.
  • EUH031 Contact with acids liberates toxic gas.
  • Acute Tox. 4 is a minimum classification (*).
  • As a respiratory sensitiser the substance must be listed in section 3 from 0.1 % even when the mixture itself is not classified (REACH Annex II, 3.2.2).

Workplace limits and transport

Occupational exposure limits are national. The values below are those of Slovakia; an SDS states the limits of the country where it is supplied, together with their legal basis.

Government Regulation No 355/2006

Occupational exposure limits (Slovakia)

  • Government Regulation No 355/2006 sets no limit for chloramine T
ADR 2025

Transport

  • ADR has no entry for chloramine T by name
  • It is assigned to a collective (n.o.s.) entry according to its properties – skin corrosion points to class 8

What the SDS must cover

All safety data sheets follow the 16 sections of REACH Annex II. For chloramine T, these points need particular attention:

Section 2 H302, H314, H334 and EUH031 with pictograms GHS08, GHS05 and GHS07 and the signal word “Danger”.
Section 3 For a mixture: listing from 0.1 % because of respiratory sensitisation, even in an unclassified mixture.
Section 8 Respiratory protection where dust can form – no national limit exists in Slovakia.
Section 10 Incompatibility with acids (EUH031).
Section 15 If used as a disinfectant, the biocide rules also apply – see biocidal products.
The structure of all 16 sections is described in the SDS template.
